The Lindsays National XC Relays at Cumbernauld on Saturday 28 October opened the national cross country season.
The scottishathletics-run event drew its biggest entry in over 25 years with the overall entry figure hitting 2600 athletes across 568 teams for one of the most inclusive national championship events in Scottish sport with male and female competitors from U13 to Masters level.
The senior men’s race was won by Inverclyde AC while Edinburgh University’s Hare and Hounds took the Senior Women’s gold for the second successive year.

World class talents Laura Muir, Callum Hawkins and Andy Butchart have all raced Cumbernauld in the recent past and while they had other commitments this weekend, the fields featured numerous Scotland and GB internationals from various disciplines from 800m to hill running and ultra.
Mark Munro, chief executive of scottishathletics said: “Once again the entry numbers for a national championship are fantastic and reflect well on so many people involved in the sport.”
Our own COO, Ian Beattie, who is also Chairman of scottishathletics took part once again and said: “I really enjoy competing in this event and still believe it is one of the best days on the calendar for athletics in Scotland.”
“Last year we started a new four-year agreement to support the Scottish Cross Country Season following a successful first two years and are delighted that we are able to help promote and improve events across the XC season.”
The next event is on Saturday 11 November when the Short Course Championships will take place on the parkland around Kirkcaldy High School. Online entries close at 5pm tonight (Monday 30 October).
