The new Lindsays Cross Country Season is upon us! Lindsays Cross Country Season gets underway at the three District Relay events on Saturday 5 October for our 11th year of support, and we know athletes, clubs and volunteers can’t wait for the races to start on Saturday at three venues.
The Lindsays District XC Relays include the East event at Livingston, Kilmarnock host in the West, and Nairn the venue for the North fixtures. Entry numbers are particularly strong in the East with Record numbers of teams entered for the Women’s race and the Girls race.
The Lindsays District XC Relays are quickly followed by two more key events:
- Lindsays National XC Relays at Cumbernauld on Saturday 19 October (entries close 5pm on Thursday 3 October)
- Lindsays Short Course XC Champs at Kirkcaldy on Saturday 2 November (entries close 5pm on Thursday 17 October).
The events at Cumbernauld and Kirkcaldy are part of the Lindsays Trophy – where finisher numbers from each club are added up over the season within a three-tier league division set-up.
Ian Beattie MBE, Chief Operating Officer at Lindsays, said: “On the back of all of the excitement around the Olympics and Paralympics - along with the news that the Commonwealth Games are returning to Glasgow - there is a real buzz around sport in Scotland.
“We know that the success of our elite athletes inspires competitors at all levels, encouraging the up-and-coming generation who dream of emulating their sporting heroes.
“That is why we are pleased to be able to play our part in helping give them the platform to race - as well as encouraging healthy and active lifestyles - through the Lindsays XC season.
“The season gets stronger every year, so we are looking forward to another great winter of running.”
Engagement from Scottish Athletics member clubs continues to grow – 99 Scottish clubs were involved in the three main Lindsays events last winter by fielding at least one finisher at the Lindsays National XC Relays, Short Course and/or National XC.
It is also important to recognise the event organising clubs and other partners at venues whose support is invaluable in making events happen, as well as to all the scottishathletics qualified Officials and all volunteers who help out over the course of the season.
