Darren Leahy is a Partner in our Commercial Property team based in Dundee and he has advised on a number of deals in the town and across Angus. He says that Carnoustie’s popularity remains high, commenting that: “It’s a place which has everything”. The demand for people looking to set up home in in the community is showing no sign of slowing,
Darren believes this demand for new homes is demonstrated by a swathe of developments either underway or in the pipeline.
Darren said: “Carnoustie continues to be on the up, as is confirmed by the demand we are seeing.
“There are no signs of this slowing as the community continues to grow - demonstrated by the number of new-build developments either planned, underway or under Angus Council consideration. These are being brought forward to realise local ambitions and are driven by the demand to live in and around the town.
“My estate agency colleagues certainly have no issues in selling homes in the area. Carnoustie’s housing market is really positive.”
Our team has worked alongside D J Laing Homes on a number of its proposed developments locally. They include plans for:
- 14 new homes at Malt Loan, where 61 homes were completed in 2018
- 54 homes at Westfield Park development
- 57 homes at Greenlawhil Barry, Carnoustie
Elsewhere, Persimmon Homes has an ongoing development of 194 units at Greenlaw Park, which includes affordable housing.
On the appeal of Carnoustie, Darren added: “It’s a place that’s got a bit of everything.
“Community is a big aspect of the attraction. Similar to places like Monifieth and Broughty Ferry, you are just a two-minute walk from the beach. It’s a pleasant place to live for a lot of folk, not to mention it’s ideal for commuting to work, with its own railway station and is close to the A92.
“It’s a place where people who grow up there tend to stay. To a large extent that is down to good schooling and the connection people feel to their home.”
