Claire Hurst, Company Secretarial Assistant with Lindsays, recently volunteered at Social Bite in Shandwick Place, Edinburgh, helping at their first supper evening for the city’s homeless.
Claire said of her experience:
“I first heard about their work from Alastair Keatinge, Partner and Head of Lindsays Charities Group. Social Bite’s objective is to relieve poverty, suffering and distress experienced by people who are homeless.
“I was offered the opportunity to work alongside the Social Bite team at their first supper evening where homeless people were invited in to the shop for a hot meal followed by tea, coffee and a chat.
“Initially I did feel apprehensive as this was my first experience supporting this type of charity. However, after meeting the Social Bite team and welcoming around twenty homeless visitors, we were busy all evening serving our visitors and enjoying chat with those who stayed on when supper was finished.
“I enjoyed being a part of the Social Bite team and finding out from the visitors about how they would benefit if these supper evenings took place on a daily basis. I saw at first hand the relaxed and happy atmosphere that was created and was interested to learn about the circumstances of some of the visitors.
“It was a privilege to be able to contribute to the success of the evening and it was satisfying to see the enjoyment experienced by our visitors. I would definitely be interested in participating in future supper evenings and am pleased that the Lindsays 200 initiative gave me this opportunity.”
Lindsays 200 is a project for our bicentenary year where our target is for staff and partners to invest at least 200 hours supporting charities and local community projects.
