Now in our tenth year supporting the Scottish Athletics Cross Country Season, we are delighted to see the growing enthusiasm and atmosphere surrounding the final event which took place in Falkirk on Saturday 24 February 2024 – ‘the big one’ for so many clubs and athletes.
Scottish Athletics’ organisers confirmed that entries for this year’s Lindsays National XC included 2277 athlete names on the start lists and more than 950 athletes racing at senior level. Forty or more club tents were pitched around Callendar Park with clubs represented from the length and breadth of the country.
“Lindsays National XC is believed to be one of the most inclusive national championship events in Scottish sport given that age range and the equal distance for male and female runners in all age groups,” said Peter Jardine, Head of Communications with Scottish Athletics.

Congratulations go to Jamie Crowe and Alice Goodall who took gold medals in the Senior Men’s and Women’s races, as well as to all the individual and team podium places won by athletes across the 10 races held on the day.

A huge thanks also goes to the host club Falkirk Vics, other club marshals, volunteers, the Road Running and Cross Country Commission and our Officials.
The Lindsays Trophy has previously been presented to the club with the highest number of participants over three events: Lanark (Lindsays Short Course XC), Cumbernauld (Lindsays National XC Relays) and this event at Falkirk. However, this year the format has been changed to split the competition into three divisions with three trophies up for grabs as well as the possibility of promotion and relegation for the clubs.
The overall aim is to increase participation and engagement and we were delighted to see that ahead of Saturday, 15 clubs already had more than 60 finishers at the first two events. Last year all the of top ten clubs had more than 100 finishers and 115 clubs were included in the final table.
The top five clubs pre-Falkirk were:
Division One:
Garscube Harriers 145; Giffnock North AC 130; Edinburgh AC 112
Completing the top five: Cambuslang Harriers 95; Falkirk Victoria Harriers 91
Division Two:
Glasgow Uni Hare and Hounds 64; Inverclyde AC 60; VP-Glasgow and Kilmarnock Harriers both 40
Completing the top five: Carnegie Harriers 39
Division Three:
Motherwell AC 38; Pitreavie AAC 33; Lothian RC 30
Completing the top five: Airdrie Harriers 27; Calderglen Harriers 24
The final count of the total number of athletes who finished the races on Saturday is in progress and we look forward to awarding three Lindsays trophies to the winning athletics clubs in due course.
