Alastair Smith, Director in our Corporate team, has recently advised a number of authors on navigating the numerous legal issues authors face in the publishing industry. These can at first appear daunting to first time authors in particular, but we have considerable experience and legal expertise in a variety of different publishing deals from fictional works, scripts, biographies and true stories.
Alastair and his team have developed extensive skills to assist in navigating the boundaries in traditional publishing, digital (e-book format), interactive entertainment, film and other revenue streams that may be available and authors with tailored advice.
Authors including Kevin Donaghy (author of “Stories of Cancer and Hope” – a compendium of stories of people who have been affected by cancer) have called on our bespoke advice to assist them in publishing and contractual matters to bring the books to a wide audience. In this case, Kevin needed particular advice on the e-book format published in January 2024.
Brief details of Kevin’s book:-
Stories of Cancer and Hope, a book bringing together the personal stories of people affected by their experiences with cancer.
Digital copies are currently available online through (https://www.storiesofcancerandhope.co.uk) with all proceeds going to supporting UK cancer charity Maggie’s in their work with patients and their families.
This is a topic which is close to the heart of many, including at Lindsays, and it was a pleasure to work with author Kevin Donaghy in bringing the book to further publication.
