Jennifer Gallagher, Partner in our Family Law team has been a guest at various charity dinners in the past, however, on this occasion her involvement was behind the scenes, volunteering at Maggie’s Fife Golf Day fundraising event.
The event was held on Friday 4 September 2015 to raise funds for Maggie’s Centre in Kirkcaldy, situated adjacent to the Victoria Hospital. Along with the Maggie’s team and other volunteers, Jennifer collected raffle money and handed out prizes at the dinner where over 80 guests from companies from across Scotland had taken tables.
Jennifer commented: “It was hard work and gave me a real insight into all the preparation and running about that goes on to ensure the smooth running of these charity functions. I have attended quite a few so it was good to see behind the scenes. It was great fun, getting time to talk to Maggie’s fundraising staff and other volunteers, and the Maggie’s speaker was inspirational.”
“There was another impressive element to the evening, we got to eat our supper in the volunteers’ room with centre pieces on our table comprising the Ryder Cup, the Claret Jug from The Open and Scottish Open Trophy.”
Jennifer added: “It was great to learn that around £17,000 was raised on the night which is crucial funding to keep all of their services running. For the people using the centres it is a real life line.”
Jennifer chose to support Maggie’s as part of Lindsays 200 after she volunteered at her local hospice recently, and subsequently connected with the charity’s fundraising team through local networking circles.
