Collette recounts the fun the Lindsays team had at the recent “It’s a Knockout” Challenge based on the legendary 70’s TV show. The event took place in Glasgow Green on 29 August 2015 and our team’s involvement was part of the volunteering activity marking our 200th anniversary at Lindsays.
The challenge involved teams of 10 partaking in ten games of inflatable fun with wet and soapy obstacles to complete the course.
“When the hospice contacted us about getting involved in “It’s a Knockout” it was one of those opportunities we couldn’t let pass us by. So we recruited our team of enthusiastic volunteers to help raise funds for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice’s Brick by Brick Foundations Appeal."
“I think I speak for us all in saying the Challenge took us right back to our childhoods. It was hilarious watching each other attempt to beat the inflatables and make it across the obstacles, while slipping and sliding and making absolute fools of ourselves. It was a great team building exercise too, and I can safely say our sides were splitting with all the laughter by the end of the day. "
“I would encourage anyone, especially my colleagues, to get involved in this type of volunteering activity. Raising money whilst having fun in the process seems like a no-brainer to me."
“The Hospice hopes to raise £21m and we are delighted to announce that we managed to raise £1,226.61 as a team for this cause, which we know will go a long way to providing much needed support.”
As with the funds raised when our volunteers collected donations at St Enoch Centre for PPWH in June, the money raised through the Hospice’s Brick by Brick appeal go towards the new purpose-built Hospice in Bellahouston Park. The appeal will modernise the Hospice’s facilities and care for the people of Glasgow who benefit from their services.
Caroline Watson from the Hospice’s corporate and events staff said: “Thank you very much to you and your team for all your hard work in participating in “It’s a Knockout” on Saturday. I hope your teams had a great day and that the event was enjoyed by all. I am sure the sore muscles will be forgotten, when the giggles are remembered from the day. Your fundraising efforts have been amazing and I see you are now over your target of £1000 for your team, which is fantastic!”
