Many of our staff already support various worthwhile causes in their personal time. This 2015 project lets them invest a few hours of their working life in these causes as well.
This means that our 200th anniversary is not just reason for celebration for Lindsays, our clients and other people we work with, but also beneficial for the communities around us.
The Lindsays 200 project is in addition to our ongoing support for charities and other organisations. Each year, we support our chosen charities – SAMH, a mental health charity.
And individual staff are trustees or board members of numerous charities and other organisations, including the Sick Kids Friends Foundation, Scottish Athletics, Prostate Scotland, the Edinburgh Young Musicians, The Outward Bound Trust, Scottish Wildlife Trust, and Dundee Women’s Aid.
This involvement in civic life is nothing new. Lindsays partners and staff over the years have been connected with many charities and community organisations. For example, a former partner Ian MacGillivray was involved in the founding of the Trefoil School for children with special needs, in 1945.
Charitable roles were even handed down from father to son. Two partners, John Parker Watson Sr and his son John Parker Watson Jr, both served as Secretary to Edinburgh’s Eye Ear & Throat Infirmary (apparently sometimes known as the Keeker, Lug & Thrapple). Between them they were carried out the Secretary duties for over 46 years.
As a long-standing part of the legal landscape in Scotland, we still feel it is important to be embedded in local community groups and support – hence the energy our staff are putting into Lindsays 200.
Staff and partners in our offices around Scotland are already planning their Lindsays 200 activities, and there are interesting plans afoot for blogs and even films. We hope to share some of these with you during the course of this year.
