This was an unfortunate case where our client was admitted to hospital with suspected meningitis and contracted bed sores while she was receiving treatment. She was a paraplegic in her eighties on admission to hospital meaning she was at a high risk of developing bed sores. The medical practitioners and nursing staff failed to properly care for her and her sores we so severe she had to have a double amputation resulting in her being bed bound for the rest of her life.
How we helped our client
The claim was challenging to value given our client was already paraplegic. Solicitor Robert Cranston handled the case on her behalf and it was raised in the Court of Session. We were able to come to a favourable agreement for our client and obtained £150,000 in compensation for her injuries. She was also awarded £20,000 for the future costs of any necessary items of aids and equipment and the cost of adapting her home. It was also agreed that our client would receive an annual payment of £31,124.98 for additional care costs which will ensure that she continues to receive a high quality of care and should her condition deteriorate that the NHS would continue to provide this care. Because of this we required to settle the action provisionally so that should there be any issues with care in the future we can recall the action.
