Our firm’s history is woven with a rich tapestry of mergers and acquisitions that have shaped who we are today. One of our earliest foundations was laid in 1815, when two ambitious young lawyers, Fothringham and Lindsay – commended by a retiring solicitor as “clever young men” – were invited to take over his practice.
Over the years, we’ve continued that legacy of trusted succession. The mergers listed below have played a key role in our growth, taking us from 11 partners in the early 1990s to 53 partners and more than 350 staff today.
- 2023: Merger with Miller Hendry
In May 2023, we merged with Miller Hendry, welcoming seven partners and approximately 50 staff. This expansion strengthened our presence in Dundee and introduced offices in Perth and Crieff, broadening our service offerings in private client, family law, dispute resolution, commercial, rural, and residential property sectors. - 2019: Merger with Hadden Rankin
October 2019 saw our merger with Edinburgh-based Hadden Rankin. Founding partners Ross Hadden and Dot Rankin, along with their team, joined Lindsays, enhancing our property and private client services. - 2018: Merger with Aitken Nairn W.S.
In January 2018, we merged with Aitken Nairn W.S., welcoming partners Kenneth Stanley and Morag Yellowlees and their staff into our Edinburgh office, bolstering our residential property and private client services. - 2015: Merger with RSB Macdonald
July 2015 marked our merger with Dundee-based RSB Macdonald, leading to the formation of RSB Lindsays in Tayside. This merger expanded our services in the region, operating from offices in Dundee City Centre and West End. - 2012: Mergers with MacLachlan & MacKenzie and Shield & Kyd
In 2012, we merged with Edinburgh firm MacLachlan & MacKenzie, known for residential property and private client work, and with Shield & Kyd, gaining our first presence in Tayside with offices in Dundee and Edinburgh. - 2008: Merger with Kidstons
Our 2008 merger with Glasgow-based Kidstons expanded our expertise in employment, litigation, private client, and residential property services, marking a significant strategic development for Lindsays.
Each of our mergers brings fresh talent, valued clients, and new opportunities. These are exciting milestones – but never at the expense of the core values that define us: building strong relationships, delivering results, and offering a service that’s both approachable and flexible.
Whether you’re working with our teams in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Perth or Crieff, our commitment remains the same: to provide the best possible experience and outcomes for you, your family, or your business.
